After Zhao Yang shut down the generators, Hu Hao rapidly launched his assault. By the time the Allied forces noticed him, he was barely 100 meters away!
Bang, bang, bang! Hu Hao fired rapidly. There weren’t many guards down here. Once these guards were eliminated, the generals wouldn’t be able to escape. It would take time for the guard units above ground to make their way down.
“Protect the generals! On alert!” the guards shouted, attempting to raise their weapons to fight back. However, one of Hu Hao’s soldiers fired a flare, perfectly illuminating the Allied forces!
“What’s going on?!” Schliemann dove to the floor inside the tent. He wasn’t the only one; everyone in the command center dropped prone.
They were inside a tent, after all—bullets would tear through it like paper. They didn’t dare act tough; a single bullet could end their lives. And sure enough, numerous bullets were flying directly overhead, smashing into the equipment. Others pierced straight through the tent and flew off elsewhere.
“It’s an enemy attack! We don’t know the exact situation!” a staff officer yelled while lying on the ground.
“Are our guard units eating shit?! How could they let the enemy attack our command center?!” Schliemann roared.
They had no idea what was happening outside and could only stay prone. What made them feel even worse was that the gunfire from their side had ceased, while the enemy was still shooting.
By now, everyone realized the attackers had slipped in through the subway tunnel.
Bang, bang, bang, bang! Hu Hao had already emptied three magazines. Seeing that there weren’t many Allied soldiers left ahead, he yelled loudly, “Keep your eyes on the entrances! Hurry up and clear out the remaining enemies!”
Hearing the order, the soldiers sprang into action. The 1st and 2nd Platoons focused on the exits, while the 3rd and 4th Platoons followed Hu Hao to clear out the Allied guards who were still resisting.
“Come out, or we’ll blow you to bits!” a soldier yelled into the tent after dropping prone beside it.
“Why waste time talking?! Throw smoke grenades in!” Hu Hao shouted. Hearing this, a soldier immediately tossed two smoke grenades into the tent!
Thick smoke instantly billowed out. Seeing this, Hu Hao drew his combat knife and charged inside. The officers hiding within had originally planned to use their pistols to fight back, but with the smoke grenades obscuring their vision, they had no idea where to shoot. They wanted to fire blindly but were terrified of hitting their own men.
“Ah!” an officer cried out! “Argh!” other officers cried out one after another.
“Don’t let them capture you! End it yourselves! Ah~~~” Realizing the enemy likely intended to take them prisoner, Schliemann immediately yelled.
He had barely finished shouting when a sharp pain shot through both his right and left arms—they had been snapped. He was then sent flying, crashing heavily onto the ground outside the tent.
By the time Schliemann regained a modicum of composure, he realized the entire tent was riddled with holes. Furthermore, people were continuously being thrown out of the tent. If it was a general, soldiers would immediately rush over and tie them up. If it was a regular officer, they were finished off with a single gunshot.
“Hao-ge, we got four Lieutenant Generals and seven or eight Major Generals!” Zhao Yang shouted loudly. The ground-level guard units above were rapidly trying to surge downward.
However, they were being pinned down by Hu Hao’s troops. The soldiers’ marksmanship was excellent, taking down an enemy with nearly every shot. The Allied guard units were frantic, but there was nothing they could do; they simply couldn’t charge down.
Hearing Zhao Yang’s shout from outside, Hu Hao immediately charged out and yelled to the soldiers, “Riddle the tent with bullets! Kill everyone inside!”
As he spoke, Hu Hao pulled the pins on two grenades and tossed them into the tent.
“Drag them away! Hurry!”
Boom! Boom! As the explosions echoed from within the tent, Hu Hao shouted his orders. He only wanted generals; anyone below that rank wasn’t worth the effort of capturing.
Besides, Hu Hao only had a small squad with him. Taking too many prisoners would make their escape difficult. Hearing Hu Hao’s orders, the soldiers immediately began dragging the captured generals back the way they came.
Bang, bang, bang! Assault rifle in hand, Hu Hao, alongside the 1st and 2nd Platoons, kept their sights fixed on the Allied soldiers charging down the stairs!
“Leave me seven or eight grenades! You guys retreat first, hurry!” Hu Hao shouted.
“Hao-ge, no! You go, we’ll hold them off!” Zhao Yang yelled back.
“I’m the boss here! Get lost!” Hu Hao barked at Zhao Yang.
“Hao-ge!” Zhao Yang continued firing from nearby. The Allied soldiers were now desperately trying to charge down.
They knew the command center had been taken out, and they had no idea if the commanders below were dead or alive. They had to reach the bottom as fast as possible; perhaps they could still rescue their corps and division commanders.
“Retreat!” Hearing the order, Zhao Yang yelled loudly. Hu Hao stood his ground, firing his assault rifle continuously!
Whenever he saw the number of Allied soldiers swelling, Hu Hao would toss a grenade, reload, and resume firing.
Hu Hao held the line there, emptying at least five magazines. Now, the only bullets he had left were the ones in the magazine currently loaded in his rifle!
“Hao-ge, retreat quickly! We’ve already reached the rear! Hurry!” Zhao Yang yelled urgently through the headset.
“Coming!” After throwing his last two grenades at the Allied troops, Hu Hao grabbed his rifle and bolted, running as fast as he could.
At the same time, he grabbed a handful of loose bullets and rapidly began loading an empty magazine. Once that was full, he moved on to the next. Although the subway tunnel was pitch black, Hu Hao could still see faintly, and his speed didn’t drop in the slightest!
“Hao-ge, hurry!” Zhao Yang could barely make out Hu Hao’s blurry silhouette. Because things were still burning near the Allied command center, they could see slightly better when looking toward the light from the darkness.
“Keep running! Have you blown the exit gap wider yet?!” Hu Hao shouted.
“It’s already blown! Hurry!” Zhao Yang yelled back while running.
Meanwhile, back with the Allied guard units, Hu Hao’s grenades had destroyed a significant portion of the stairs. They had to be extremely careful when descending, or they risked falling straight down.
“Hurry down!” the guard unit officers yelled. They were incredibly anxious. They never could have imagined that the command center here would actually be taken out.
They had deployed a massive number of guards in the surrounding area, yet they never expected that despite blocking off both ends of the tunnel, enemies would still manage to infiltrate! It took the Allied forces nearly two minutes to lay down wooden planks to create a makeshift path down.
Many Allied guards rapidly surged downward. It was pitch black below, forcing them to use the flashlights mounted on their weapons to illuminate the command center. When they saw the scene inside the tent, despair washed over them—it was filled with corpses.
A Colonel pushed past the guards, walked inside, and swept his flashlight around. He only found a few Brigadier Generals and one Major General. Not a single Lieutenant General was anywhere to be seen.
“Chase them! What are you standing there for?! Our Corps Commanders have been abducted! Do you not care about your lives anymore?!” the Colonel roared.
“They’re over there! There’s a bit of light over there! They must have gone that way!” a Major yelled loudly.
“Why are you telling me?! Chase them!” the Colonel screamed at him.
“Follow me!” Hearing this, the Major led his soldiers, jumped onto the tracks, and began giving chase. By this time, Hu Hao and his team had already reached the collapsed section!
“Hurry, get up there quickly!” Hu Hao shouted. The soldiers scrambled up through the widened gap and tumbled over to the other side.
“Hao-ge, should we hold them off here?!” Zhao Yang yelled as he saw Hu Hao tumble over the rubble.
“Hold them off, my ass! The area above us is Allied territory! Keep running! Run toward our exit!” Hu Hao ordered.
“Hao-ge, Hao-ge, calling Hao-ge! Our brothers have arrived to reinforce us!” A soldier stationed at their entry point reported over the radio.
“Where are those troops from? Keep your eyes fixed on that direction, we’ll be there shortly! Hurry, carry them down!” Hu Hao ordered the soldiers. Some were Hu Hao’s own subordinates who had been injured, and the soldiers were carrying them as they ran. Others were the captured Allied officers.
Their hands were bound behind their backs, and their legs were tied together. Whenever the officers struggled, the soldiers would simply smash them with the butt of their rifles, quickly silencing them. Now, they were hauling them as if they were carrying corpses, running as fast as they could.
“They’re over there!” Bang! Bang! Bang! In the distance, the Allied guard units had caught up and began firing in Hu Hao’s direction!
Bang, bang, bang! Knowing the enemy was closing in, Hu Hao instantly dropped prone and unleashed a barrage of suppressing fire. The other soldiers joined in, covering their comrades as they descended the rubble!
“Hao-ge, we’re good!” Zhao Yang yelled after getting his team down. Hu Hao led the rearguard down, and they resumed their sprint.
“Brothers at the exit, prepare to receive us! We’re almost out of ammo!” Hu Hao yelled into his headset as he ran.
“Understood!” Hearing Hu Hao’s order, the Team Leaders of the two Special Operations squads that had just arrived to reinforce immediately began finding cover to cover Hu Hao’s retreat.
“Over here, quickly!” Not long after, Hu Hao’s team was nearing the exit. Seeing them, the Team Leaders of the reinforcing squads yelled out.
“Faster!” Seeing a soldier on the verge of collapsing from exhaustion, Hu Hao grabbed him and pulled him along as they ran. They had been stumbling and sprinting the entire way, dragging prisoners and keeping an eye on the pursuing Allied forces. They had no choice but to run as fast as humanly possible.
Although the distance was only a little over a kilometer, running too slowly could cost them their lives.
“Hao-ge!” a Team Leader called out just as Hu Hao reached the exit.
“The assault team goes up first! Drag those generals and our wounded up! You guys who just arrived as reinforcements, hold the line right here! Also, call a regular infantry battalion over! Damn it, they actually dared to chase us all the way here!” Hu Hao roared.
“Understood!” Hearing the orders, Zhao Yang immediately began contacting Wu Kexiao.
